The Aboriginal people and their contribution to the Australian culture today.

Recent migrations and their impact.
Legendary images of Australian identity.
Contemporary images of Australian identity.

TASK ONE
Define the following terms in the context of Australia.
1. Society.
2. Culture
3. Identity
4. Folklore
5. Mythology
6. National Mythology
7. Multiculturalism
8. National Iconography
Your answer should not be a simple definition from a Dictionary, but should be shaped in such
a way that it relates to the subject as a whole. Use examples to support as many of your answers as you can.
TASK TWO
As part of a Class Discussion decide what elements go together
to make up a national identity. What are the characteristics?
Is there such a thing as an 'Australian Icon'?
Make a list of these characteristics. Once you have done so watch one of the following movies.
Strictly Ballroom
Crocodile Dundee
The Castle
Do these films portray an image that matches your list?
In what ways do the film and image match, in what ways are they different?
Repeat the process with the following film
They're a Weird Mob
Now compare the results of your observations of the second movie with the first,
